What a deep clean is
Dirt comes in layers.
A regular clean lifts the top layer. A deep clean goes down through the rest.
Look closely at a kitchen tap or a shower screen and you are looking at several kinds of dirt at once, stacked on top of each other. Loose dust and crumbs sit on top. Under them is a film of grease, fingerprints or soap. Under that is mineral scale. And in the grout, the corners and along every edge is dirt that has been packed in for months.
Each layer answers to something different. Dust comes off with a cloth. A film needs a cleaner that breaks it up, and a little time to work. Scale is mineral, so wiping only moves it around; it needs a descaling product left on long enough to dissolve it. Packed-in grime needs agitation, which means a brush, not a swipe. A regular clean deals with the first layer and part of the second, and that is exactly what it should do. It is also why a home can be cleaned every week and still have taps that never quite shine.
Why London homes see so much scale
Thames Water, which supplies much of London, says the water across its region is hard. Hard water leaves mineral behind wherever it dries: around taps, on shower screens, inside kettles. Every splash that dries adds a little more, and over months it becomes the white crust that no longer wipes off. That is scale, and it is why so many London bathrooms need more than a wipe.
What a deep clean changes
The difference is not effort, it is reach. A deep clean spends its time where a regular visit does not go: descaling fittings, scrubbing grout lines, degreasing the surfaces around the hob, and wiping the skirting boards, sills and door frames that collect what the rest of the room sheds. The checklist below shows, room by room, what sits at each depth.

After the reset
A deep clean is a reset, not a routine.
What you do next decides how long it lasts.
A deep clean takes a home back to its best. It cannot stop the next spill, the next shower or the next week. What happens afterwards is simple, and worth knowing before you book.
Think of it as two lines. One is a home that is deep cleaned and then left. It drifts back towards where it started, at a pace that depends on who lives there, how often the hob is used and how many people come through the door. The other is a home that is deep cleaned and then kept up with regular visits. Those stay in the shallow layers, so the deeper ones never get the chance to build again.
- Deep clean, then regular visits (each dot is a visit)
- Deep clean, then nothing
A sketch of the idea, not measured data. How fast a home drifts depends on who lives in it and how it is used.
One deep clean, or a cycle?
Some people book a single deep clean to get a home to a clean starting line. Others pair it with a regular cleaning service, so the deep clean is the first visit and the regular visits do the maintaining. If you would like the second, say so in the quote notes.

When it is time
Five moments a deep clean earns its place.
There is no fixed schedule. These are the points where it tends to make the most sense.
A deep clean is the right call when the question has stopped being "does it need a wipe?" and become "when did anyone last get to the bottom of this?". Here are the moments that usually prompt it.
Moving in
You do not know what the last person skipped, and an empty home is far easier to clean properly than one full of boxes and furniture. Doing it before you unpack means the cupboards and shelves are clean before anything goes in them.
Starting a regular service
Regular visits are built to maintain a clean home, not to rescue one. A deep clean first gives them a proper baseline to maintain, and the difference shows from the second visit onwards.
After a long gap
A busy stretch, a long winter or a season of keeping the windows shut all leave the same mark: surfaces that look clean from across the room and are not when you lean in. A deep clean is the reset for that.
Before guests or an event
A date in the diary is a good forcing function. Book it a few days ahead, so there is time to put everything back where it lives.
The seasonal reset
Plenty of people pick a point in the year, often spring, to go through the whole home. A deep clean turns that from a weekend of effort into a booking.
When it is not the right service
If you are handing back keys, that is an end of tenancy clean, matched to your check-in inventory. If it is a short-let changeover between guests, that is an Airbnb turnaround. A deep clean is for a home you are staying in.

Depth. A regular visit deals with the top layers of dirt: dust, crumbs, fingerprints and light films. A deep clean also works on the layers underneath, such as limescale on fittings, grease around the hob, and dirt packed into grout lines, corners and edges.
Every room is worked through to a fixed checklist, with extra time on descaling, degreasing, grout, skirting boards, sills and door frames. The checklist on this page shows what sits at each depth. Oven, fridge, carpets and the inside of kitchen cabinets can be added as optional extras on the quote form, and the quote spells out what is included.
Thames Water, which supplies much of London, says the water across its region is hard. Hard water leaves mineral behind wherever it dries, so taps, shower screens and kettles build scale again unless the surface is wiped dry and descaled now and then.
Not always. Long-standing limescale, staining on worn surfaces and marks that have etched into a finish may not lift completely, and no cleaner can honestly promise otherwise. A deep clean gets a surface as clean as it can be.
A deep clean resets a home, and regular visits keep it there. Some people book a single deep clean, others book one and then start a regular service. Tell us which you are after in the quote notes.
No. A deep clean is about depth, for a home you are staying in. An end of tenancy clean is matched to your check-in inventory for handing a property back, which is why it has its own page.
